Learning 2 - The Ten Activities

Listed below are 10 Activities that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the Internet and Web 2.0.

 

10 Learning 2.0 Activities

(Note: Details about each task will be activated every week with posts related to each item)

 

 

Activity 1: Introduction

 

  1. Read this Technoblog post and learn about the Learning 2.0 Program
  2. Discover a few pointers from lifelong learners and learn how to nurture your own learning process.

 

 

Activity 2: Blogging

 

  1. Set up your own blog and add the first post
  2. Email your blog address to the LTC and begin your Learning 2.0 journey.

 

 

Activity 3: Photos and Images 

 

  1. Explore Flickr and learn about this popular image hosting site
  2. Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups and 3rd party sites.

 

 

Activity 4: RSS and Newsreaders

 

  1. Learn about RSS feeds and set up your own Google Reader account
  2. Locate a few useful education-related blogs and/or news feeds.

 

 

Activity 5: Play Week

 

  1. Play around with an online image generator
  2. Roll your own search tool with Rollyo.

 

 

Activity 6: Tagging, Folksonomies and Technorati

 

  1. Learn about tagging and (re)discover del.icio.us (a social bookmarking site)
  2. Explore Technorati and learn how tags work with blog posts

 

 

Activity 7: Wikis

 

  1. Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that they are being used
  2. Add an entry to the Learning 2.0 Sandbox wiki.

 

 

Activity 8: Online Applications and Tools 

 

  1. Take a look at some online productivity (word processing, spreadsheet) tools
  2. Explore any site from the Web 2.0 Awards list, play with it and write a blog post about your findings.

 

 

Activity 9: Podcasts, Video and Downloadable Audio 

  1. Discover YouTube, TeacherTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos
  2. Discover some useful search tools for locating podcasts
  3. Take a look at the audiobook titles available and learn how to download them.

 

 

Activity 10: You've Made It! 

  1. Summarise your thoughts about this program on your blog.

 

 

 

Recording Your Progress

 

All St. Michael's staff need to is this:

 

  1. Email the LTC when you've completed Activity 2 with the address of your blog (e.g., http://stmbtech.edublogs.org)

  2. Publish a post on your blog when you complete each activity.

     

    Non-St. Michael's users of Learning 2.0 obviously only need to complete step 2.
